What is PERL?Perl is a high-level programming language. It derives from the ubiquitous C programming language and to a lesser extent from sed, awk, the Unix shell, and at least a dozen other tools and languages. Perl's process, file, and text manipulation facilities make it particularly well-suited for tasks involving quick prototyping, system utilities, software tools, system management tasks, database access, graphical programming, networking, and world wide web programming. These strengths make it especially popular with system administrators and CGI script authors, but mathematicians, geneticists, journalists, and even managers also use Perl. What is CGI?Common Gateway Interface aka "CGI" is a set of rules that describe how a Web Server communicates with another piece of software on the same machine, and how the other piece of software (the CGI program) talks to the web server. Any piece of software can be a CGI program if it handles input and output according to the CGI standard. You can often see that a CGI program is being used by seeing cgi-bin in a URL. The cgi-bin directory is the folder on a webserver where CGI scripts can be run from. Installed Perl Modules:Here is a list of our installed Perl modules.
